Our Story

After months of prayer, discernment and several visits to many communities in the Pacific Northwest, we, Fr. David and Debbie, were led by the Holy Spirit to Sequim to plant a new Anglican congregation. We developed a strategic plan, which was received and approved by our bishop. He anointed us and sent us on our mission. We arrived in Sequim on April 1, 2019. After only a few weeks in Sequim, Fr. David met a small group of Anglicans from a previous congregation that disbanded in 2002 following the death of their priest. They had been praying ever since that God would send a new Anglican priest to Sequim. With the help of this small group and several other folks, a thriving new Anglican congregation rooted in mission, compassion and the love of Christ was formed. We called it "The Heart of Jesus Church" because we love sharing compassion and mercy from the sacred heart of Jesus. We began meeting and worshiping in Fr. David and Debbie’s home, which we quickly outgrew. Now we meet in the sanctuary of the SDA Church at 30 Sanford Lane in Sequim.

Heart of Jesus Mission Church

Father David started his pastoral ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming in 1987.  He served as Pastor and Vicar at various churches in WY and IL.  Most recently before coming to Sequim, WA to plant Heart of Jesus Mission, he was Vicar of St. George's Church in Macomb, IL.   He is deeply rooted in reaching out in merciful care to various community service organizations, including Pet Rescue, the elderly, addicted, disabled (including veterans) and homeless communities.  He completed ministry and theology education at The University of the South and Andrews Hall Seminary. Fr. David and his wife Debbie were married in 1979. Their three adult children are married and they have five grandchildren.
Fr. David enjoys gardening, fishing, shooting, hiking and music.
Diocese of Quincy

Bishop Morales committed, from the beginning, to work hard to make the Diocese of Quincy prosper and to bring people in our communities to the knowledge and love of God. And it’s happening. The diocese doubled in size during his first three years as bishop.

With a deep passion to build up the Kingdom of God, the bishop loves helping start new congregations. We are all missionaries, and Bishop Morales is constantly reminding laity and clergy alike of that shared role.  His vision for the diocese is that its congregations would work as missionaries to bring hurting, broken, and searching people to faith in God. For Bishop Morales, making disciples is an imperative, not just a nice statement.  The strengths of the Diocese of Quincy are its history and roots, he says, and its new strengths are coming from the new people, congregations, and clergy flocking to the diocese.
Anglican Church in North America
The Anglican Church in North America unites 112,000 Anglicans in nearly 1,000 congregations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico into a single Church. On April 16, 2009 it was recognized as a province of the global Anglican Communion, by the Primates of the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans. The Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach is the Archbishop of the Church.

Members of the Anglican Church in North America are in the mainstream, both globally and historically, of Christianity – the biblically-faithful way of following Jesus and being part of the “One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.” We wholeheartedly embrace the The Jerusalem Declaration, the founding declaration of the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans GAFCON, and the Theological Statement of the Common Cause Partnership – the precursor to the Anglican Church in North America.
